Our Story

Find a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.

At the start of every special moment in your life, there is a piece of jewellery. At your proposal, your wedding, the birth of a child or the celebration of a life spent together – whatever the occasion, jewellery is the unique precious luxury we use to symbolise how important that moment is.

As a jeweller, I play a privileged role in that moment by crafting the perfect piece for you. I’ve provided exclusive and unique items of jewellery for over 35 years, and I’ve loved every moment of it.

Every occasion deserves a special piece of jewellery.

I love a proposal. It’s a beautiful, once-in-a-lifetime moment that you’ll remember forever. The location, the words and, of course, the ring. What can I say – I’m just a romantic.

How does a jeweller propose? I proposed to my beautiful wife in front of the Christmas tree, and in the box was a watch, engraved with a personal message – although there was, of course, a unique diamond ring later. Now, 15 years later, she is the rock that has supported me and our family as I finally brought my dream to life and opened my workshop.

Steven Charles Quance – A journey to fine jewellery

My journey began at the age of 15 when I wanted to buy a special little gold piece of jewellery for my girlfriend. I was already working weekends at the factory my father managed on the outskirts of the Jewellery Quarter, so it was an easy trip to visit a friend of his. The moment I entered that small workshop in the Quarter, I realised I had found my future. Here was a craftsman and entrepreneur, using his skill and creativity and being his own boss.

I found an apprenticeship position working for a business that did all the repairs for a well-known high-street brand. We were very busy. There I learnt all the basics of making jewellery from a fabulous craftsman named Mike Walsh. Mike is the person who set me on the path to my own shop, first by finding me a position sizing rings for Annie’s Jewellers in Walsall, and then later becoming my first business partner when we launched a business of our own in Birmingham City Centre called Onyx Jewellers. After a career in selling and repairing other people’s jewellery, I finally realised my dream, opening my workshop to design and create bespoke items for individuals 15 years ago.

Now Steven Charles Quance – Fine Jeweller – creates luxury personal jewellery, handcrafted to your personal design. I specialise in wedding and engagement rings and bespoke items for your special moments.

Of course, we cannot all budget for a bespoke ring. Gosh Rocks is the perfect balance between high street standard and bespoke luxury. A Gosh Rocks lab-grown diamond ring allows you to personalise your ring without a high-end price tag – because every engagement deserves a special piece of jewellery.
